Milestones – “Equal Measures” [EP] [Album Review]

Young, Manchester-based outfit put out their new EP but will it see them replicate the success of some of their influences like Neck Deep and YMA6?

It would be doing Milestones a disservice to describe their brand of bouncy pop-punk rock as inoffensive, but I’ve listened to Equal Measures, their debut EP, a few times now and it really is hard to find a more suitable description. Happy, upbeat, melodic pop-rock is the order of the day here and, although I may have already dubbed it inoffensive, I have to say that it’s hard not to sit there in a warm glow as you listen to the infectious energy pouring out of the band.

Without wanting to come across as patronizing, Equal Measures does have plenty in its favour for a band of such a young age. The acoustic “Counterparts”, for example, sees the group step outside their pop/punk/rock boundaries to explore alternative avenues while “Sleepless Nights Are Put To Bed” sees the guys signing off this EP by untethering themselves from their poppy restraints and really rocking out.

Here’s hoping the band have many more years ahead of them and many more tunes like “Sleepless Nights…” as that would make us most happy!

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
