Galantis – Pharmacy – Album Review

Deprived from the lack of new pop-dance music? Then I suggest you go to the Pharmacy because that’s what Swedish duo Galantis named their brand new and anticipated full-length album.

It’s been a whirlwind year since Galantis’ 2014 Coachella debut that caught everyone’s attention as one of the top emerging acts to watch. Now, with 13 new songs, they’re ready to take the world by storm; however, is the world ready for them?

Based on what is featured on the album, it had the typical “sound of the alarm” and the “dropping of the beat” genre completely covered to the point where I was hoping there wasn’t going to be another beat drop.

Essentially this is what pop-dance music is supposed to do, but after the first half of the album, I was starting to tire of it. Personally, I was hoping the album would go beyond the pop-dance genre.

In fact, I got pretty excited when I heard steel pans in the background from Call If You Need Me because it was definitely a different sound compared to the rest of the album. Afterwards, it just felt like the album dropped beats repeatedly.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed some songs like Forever Tonight and Gold Dust. These two tracks were probably my favourite from the album because they both featured amazing vocalists and are overall great songs to dance to.

Some songs had interesting lyrics like, “spread it like peanut butter jelly,” in Peanut Butter Jelly, which made me laugh. Others caught me off guard in Kill ‘Em With The Love because the lyrics “can’t keep” kept repeating so quickly to the point where it sounded like they were singing “candy.”

Overall, I got the feeling that if I had been at a club, then I would have enjoyed the music 10 times more.
