Cirque-It Celebrates Inaugural Event at New Circus North Festival

Presented by Circus North Festival and produced by Noble Sky, Cirque-It is an interactive wearable-tech experience that will level up fashion. Celebrating its inaugural event on May 21 and taking place at 12 Trinity St. in the Distillery District, Toronto, Cirque-It will exhibit the collaborative efforts of three professional industries; fashion designers, wearable-tech “Makers” and circus arts performers.

Indoctrinated to create stylish, creative and functional outfits, Cirque-It was created to explore the combination of modern performance, fashion, and technology. Bringing together these three industries, the event aims to foster a broader discussion of art in technology and economic possibilities.

That evening, from 7 p.m. – 2 a.m., patrons will be welcomed by surreal sculptures to explore the space taking them to areas like Expo Alley where they can learn more about the tech involved that night. Attendees will have the opportunity to gaze upon artworkstylings as they roam through the rows of circus inspired photography and favouritedesigner outfits. Beginning early into the event the featured pieces will be highlighted in a scheduled set of performances throughout the evening after a series of short presentations are made; and a DJ will leave guests dancing until the end of the night.

The teams, aka “PODS”, are made up of these participating members:
Fashion designers
Carl Penny of Fictional Clothing, James Hagerty of Ego Assassin, Masha Ruginets of Masha Apparel, Sera Ghadaki of SERAGHADAKI, and Wendy Ng of Dystropolis.

Wearable-tech “Makers”
Eric Boyd of Sensebridge,  Ian Parker of Parker Designs, Kyle White of Site3 Fire Arts,Leif Bloomquist of Schema Factor, Maria Karam of Tactile Audio Displays, Martin Labrecque of Breq Labs, Muse: the brain sensing headband, and Wave DNA the virtual instrument software.

Performing artists
Pole aerialist Liona Davies, on static trapeze Mary Margaret and Joanne Galligan, hand-to-hand movement with Equilibrium Circus’ Paz and Molly, and traditional and contemporary dancers Rhonda Lucy and Victoria Ellingham.
