Storyteller – “Dirty Sheets” [Song Review]

Dirty Sheets, the new track from German pop-punk rockers Storyteller may have all the traits of your average pop-punk song but thankfully the emphasis from these Germans is more on the punk side than the pop side!

I have to admit that I’m not the biggest pop-punk fan in the world, partly because I’m reaalllly old these days, but mainly because a lot of this scene tends to blur into a ball of inoffensive, bland nothingness.

German quintet Storyteller, however, do that thing that some pop-punk groups do that makes listening to their music a lot less painful. Putting the emphasis more on the punk rather than the pop side of things, Storyteller sound a lot edgier and grittier than your average Simple Plan-lite band – a definite thumbs up from this side!

Their new track, “Dirty Sheets,” is a decent little ditty about memories of yesteryear – usual fodder for your average pop-punk lyricist. It’s three minutes long, has a catchy chorus but, as I said, Storyteller add a little more grit to their sound to create something that, you know what, does go some way to resurrecting my interest in the pop-punk scene.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
