We are happy to offer you our most rad-titled free song download ever, “Doogie Howser Part 1.” The track comes from NOK NOVUM, an experimental, four-piece experimental/progressive metal band from Calgary, Alberta. Formed in 2008, they were originally a two-piece but then decided to add two more members and expand on their developing sound. After four years of trying to come up with a complex sound, they dropped their self-titled debut in summer 2012, which cleverly fused ’70s progressive rock, jazz fusion and heavy metal in a chaotic, yet inviting way.
The band’s live show is like no other which has helped them in becoming one of the top live acts in Calgary. The members have also become close with many of the top acts in today’s metal scene, as evidenced by the three sick guest solos on “Doogie Howser Part 1.” Contributions to the track come from none other than Mike MacKenzie (The Mike MacKenzie Band), Alan Sacha Laskow (Every Hour Kills, ex-Enditol, ex-Divinity) and Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood (Periphery, ex-Red Seas Fire). If you never were a fan of Doogie Howser before, you will be after hearing this track, sort of, I guess… Be sure to check out the band’s new release, Shiryō, as well.
