Album Review
BONZ – “Broken Silence” [Album Review]
Broken Silence opens with “Sinister Gain,” which sets the tone of what’s in store from the rest of the recording. It’s full of energy and will have you unconsciously head banging as you go about your day.
During the early ’90s an exiting new bread of musicians hit the scene, fusing hard rock and metal with hip hop and rap. We are of course talking about the likes of, among many others, Rage Against The Machine, Head (pe), and Stuck Mojo (who actually formed in the ’80s); the latter of whom, to many, were the pioneers of this breed of music we now know as rap-metal.
Enter 2015 and ex-Stuck Mojo frontman Bonz, is back with a brand new album titled Broken Silence, a release which brings me right back to that glorious decade I loved so much, the ’90s. And what an album this is; as a fan of the genre I have had this on repeat for at least a week!
Broken Silence opens with “Sinister Gain,” which sets the tone of what’s in store from the rest of the recording. It’s full of energy and will have you unconsciously head banging as you go about your day. “Godshine” is another fantastic track with a chorus designed to get you pumped. My personal favourite though, would have to be “Take It Personal” – it is the most rap-orientated song on the album, and as a bonus, we get a live version at the end of the album.
Some have stated that this is outdated and therefore not good. I beg to differ; if it’s not broke, don’t fix it! If you’re a fan of rap-metal or nu-metal you may want to think about adding this to your collection. Long live the ’90s!
