Now in its 12th year since starting back in 2004, SuicideGirls’ Blackheart Burlesque Tour is returning to Canada this April with a revamped take on their already highly successful show.

The Blackheart Burlesque show incorporates various pop culture tributes such as Star Wars, Orange Is The New Black, Donnie Darko, A Clockwork Orange and more, all performed by various SuicideGirls.

Having the chance to speak with SuicideGirls founder Missy Suicide, who is responsible for “everything from choosing the music and themes, to overseeing the routing and booking, to managing the marketing and press,” she mentioned just how excited they are to be returning to Canada.

“We’ve toured Canada a few times, and the crowds are some of our favorites. Everyone is so welcoming and enthusiastic, and the cities are really beautiful,” she said.

“The fans are always so great! They’re excited for the show and are so sweet to the girls. We really couldn’t make our tour happen without the love and support of our fans.”

SuicideGirls fans can expect to see many of the girls from around the world, all of which can be found on their main pin-up site, many of who also take on various social media roles to stay connected with fans. Missy suggests those who are interested should check out the @sgblackheartburlesque Instagram and the main @suicidegirls Instagram for various behind the scene looks of the show.

The Blackheart Burlesque Tour has opened for many world renowned bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Guns N’ Roses, and Courtney Love. “It’s a dream come true to open for one of your favorite bands,” said Missy.

Another high profile name associated with the show is Manwe Sauls-Addison, who has choreographed for the likes of Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga, and now the Blackheart Burlesque Tour.

“When we decided to reinvent the Burlesque tour I called Manwe to see if he would be interested.  I told him it would be a little different and asked him to come out to LA and we would audition girls and see if he could prepare one number,” said Missy. “I told him we wanted a Planet of The Apes number to Disclosures’ “When A Fire Starts to Burn” with elements of the Simpson’s Planet of the Apes Opera mixed in.  When he came out to LA and showed us the rough choreo for the number I knew it was special and we have been coming up with the crazy coolest numbers we can think of since then.”

It’s these kinds of twists that set Blackhearts Burlesque apart for the other burlesque shows out there.

“Our girls are a little edgier, our numbers feature Manwe’s incredible choreography, and we have a few points in the show where we really love to get the audience involved. Our music is really non-traditional, too – I don’t know any other burlesque acts that feature songs from Nine Inch Nails, Die Antwoord, and Disclosure!”

Starting in April, Canada will play host to the SuicideGirls’ Blackheart Burlesque show. So, if you’re someone who enjoys sexy women and some good old-fashioned nerdy fun, this is the show for you.

“I hope people have an amazing time and that they leave with huge smiles and stories to tell,” said Missy. “I also hope the show proves that “sexy” can be geeky, punk rock, tongue-in-cheek, or anything you want it to be, really!”
