Cavalera Conspiracy – “Pandemonium” [Album Review]

In metal, there are few musicians more prolific than Max Cavalera. It seems almost guaranteed that every year will see the musician release new music in some form or other. Already in 2014 we’ve had the outstanding Killer Be Killed debut and, if that wasn’t enough, we also saw the release of the third Cavalera Conspiracy album.

Pandemonium is that offering, and what an offering it is. While not quite the grindcore album that Max said it would be, it is undoubtedly the fastest thing the Cavalera brothers have produced in a long time. Opening tracks “Babylonian Pandemonium” and “Bonzai Kamikazee” set the tone and what follows is almost relentless in its brutality. On Pandemonium the Max and Igor have gone back to their roots and produced a disc that, although it does have some groove, is predominately a fast, unrelenting assault on the senses.

If Pandemonium was released during the early days of Sepultura it would not have been out of place at all. It took three attempts, but finally Cavalera Conspiracy have released and album worthy of the name.
