In music culture today, it often seems that bands and musicians are out to one up each other, making music that is faster, harder, or heavier than their counterparts. While I am a fan of many of these such artists, I also firmly believe in the age-old adage that sometimes, simpler is better.

Sometimes I don’t want to really have to think about what I am listening to, I just want to rock out to fun, energetic tunes. Kix fit that bill perfectly and perhaps that is the reason I have been a fan of theirs for so long. Their brand of straight-ahead rock dominated the charts back in the ’80s and was definitely the soundtrack for my more formative years.

Well, after 19 years, the band is back with their 7th studio record, Rock Your Face Off, and I can happily say that not only do they still know how to create energetic rock and roll, but that this record is also a delightful listen. The catchy, infectious choruses of “Wheels in Motion” and toe-tapping grooves of the title track, “Rock Your Face Off,” are just a few examples of the fantastic tunes found on this record.

Rock Your Face Off is rock and roll in its purest and simplest form. I believe there will always be room for unadulterated, unpretentious rock just like this, no matter how technologically advanced or musically adept the hard rock/heavy metal genres get. This is a great album folks, definitely more than worth your time.
