Idre (pronounced eye-druh) is a new band out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band rose out of a two-piece project between current guitarist/vocalist Ryan Davis and cellist Erica Danley who had been working together under the name Thee Bad Newes. Once drummer Nicholas Wojcik (ex-Catheter / Reform Control) was added to the lineup in September 2012, it allowed the project to start going in new directions and experiment with new sounds. By summer 2013, bassist Andon Whitehorn had joined the band which further enriched the scope and depth of the music. Unfortunately things did not end up working out with Danley as she parted ways with the band in late 2013 after playing only one show with the other members.
Despite the subtraction of Danley, Davis, Wojcik and Whitehorn started writing music for their first ever record and in spring 2014 they entered Dust House Studio with engineer Atlee Hickerson to record their self-titled debut. The sound of the album has been characterized as a weighted mixture of somber, melodic, atonal, and spacial layers. The artists that Idre credit as inspiration include Black Math Horseman, Neurosis, Earth, Swans, Ennio Morricone, Frederic Chopin, OM, Sink, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Khanate, and Townes Van Zandt. Check it out!
