“Tyrannosaurus, or, Faith Will Drive You Home.” Says you, “what the fuck did he just say?” Yes, you read that right. This very original song title comes courtesy of progressive metalcore band Dinosaurs Are Not Gone!. The group is from Saguenay, a small city about 120 miles north of Quebec City. Can you imagine how friggin’ cold it must be there?! Sheesh… Anyways, this new five-piece band attempts to bring new ideas to what they feel is a decaying genre of music. Their influences include Tool, The Mars Volta, Last Chance To Reason, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Infant Annihilator, all acts certainly worth looking up to. Their music tries to get away from the clean and sterile production of modern day metalcore in favour of something more raw to give their music more of a “garage” feel.
Their first album, the very dinosaur appropriately titled Rawrrrr!!!, will take you to brutal depths and eclectic progressive heights with songs that are all over the place. You’ll find tracks that are less than a minute in length and ones that are 12 long minutes of brutality. One of the album’s tracks features Zantilla, an up and coming chiptune/progressive rock/metal artist. A special treat on Rawrrrr!!! is an oh so perfect cover of Katy Perry’s hit pop song “Roar” (Rawrrr, Roar, get it?). As a cool feature, the second half of the album features instrumental versions of all the songs. Get ready to get your roar on…
