Black Label Society – “Unblackened” [Blu-ray Review]

Fans of both Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society are going to totally dig this Blu-ray disc which features 17 kick-ass tracks performed live in a rather intimate setting. For this performance the band are seated at the front of the venue and the focus is on the killer, hard-edged, bluesy tunes and unbelievable playing of Zakk Wylde and the band, rather than on a energetic and theatrical show.

I know to some of you out there this may sound a bit boring, but I assure you it is not. I really enjoyed watching and listening to this show; the HD quality picture and audio really enhanced the whole experience. The show is captivating and even though there are no bells and whistles, the stripped down performance kept my attention and had the sold out crowd at Club Nokia on there feet the entire time.

The bonus features on this disc are also top-notch. As you might expect, the interview with Wylde is terrific, but it’s the footage of his visit to HM Prison Stocken (UK) that is unbelievable. Moreover, footage of Wylde sitting in a room by himself just absolutely shredding left me in awe – it is stunning what he can make his guitar do. This is a Blu-ray that basically features 165 minutes of pure awesomeness.
