The Skinny: Thumbnailing El Paso, Texas onto the music map with their avant garde sound, indie rock band Avindale is Oscar Alderete (lead vocals, guitar, keys), Oscar Diaz de Leon (vocals, percussion), Gary Espinoza (bass), Alberto Herrera (drums), and Cristian Guardado (guitar).
Since the release of Avindale’s latest EP, Lost In A Place Some Call Home in Summer 2013, the band has opened for Circa Survive, Coheed and Cambria, Jane’s Addiction, and Alice in Chains. Recorded in Sacramento with engineer and producer Dryw Owens (From Indian Lakes, Culprit), Lost In A Place Some Call Home is a seamless quilt of rock subgenres. Rooted in powerful, ambient guitar melodies, moving bass lines and beats, as well as melancholic vocals and lyrics, Avindale shifts gear between experimental, post-hardcore, and instrumental rock.
With the help of Toshinori Yagi of Cars and Calories Records, the EP was released in Japan in March of 2014 and was distributed through Tower Records Japan. The Japanese edition includes two new singles from Avindale, “Azure” and “Not Even Gold,” which were recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios. These singles will be released on vinyl via True Grit Records this Summer.
