The Henry Maneuver – if you haven’t heard of him already, well, you need to pay attention. This guy is certainly one musician to look out for. The first time I saw Henry in the flesh was with his previous band in a tiny venue in Baltimore. I was just blown away by his sheer musical prowess – it’s enough to make you question how many instruments does one have to master before it becomes too much.

Since then, The Henry Maneuver has become a one-man project. His latest release, “Salty Kisses”, is catchy to the core. It’s upbeat and bouncy, with just the right amount of melody and heaviness. The chorus is my favorite part – infectious, to say the least, as you’ll probably find yourself humming it after a couple of listens. With the solo and basically all the lead guitar work in the bridge, Henry does a fine job here of knowing when to hold back and balancing the complexity with simply “hitting the right notes.” Only downside for me: Henry’s vocals are not my favorite. His style reminds me of that whole spectrum of punk metal/hardcore punk (Atreyu, Asking Alexandria etc) that isn’t really my cup of tea, but that’s just a matter of taste. He makes up for it with some solid screaming though.

Of course, the lyrics are cheeky as heck, as is the entire video – ask Henry about the meaning behind this song; I daresay you won’t be disappointed. It’s almost enough to distract you from the fact that you’re watching a musical genius in action. Almost.
