Mother – “A New Life” [EP] [Album Review]
When a great big filthy riff booms out of your speakers you just pray the rest of A New Life, the new EP from New York rockers Mother, manages to maintain this high level of adrenaline-fueled rock debauchery. Thankfully, the New York quartet certainly don’t disappoint delivering track after track of ballsy, grungy modern hard rock.
Inspired by everything from the wail of Soundgarden to the dirty trashy sleaze of Buckcherry, A New Life has something for anyone who likes their rock to just really fucking rock. In fact, the grinding, pumping “Outside” and the dark, brooding “Driving Myself Insane” could quite possibly be the shot in the arm the traditional hard rock scene has been missing. One thing is for sure, they’ll certainly give fans of bands like the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver that fix of hard trashy rock that they’ll be absolutely gagging for; even more so when they get a load of frontman Nick Fargo who has a set of lungs that most rock frontman would fucking die for.
While the fashion led media are busy falling over each other to cover what they deem to be the next cool thing, bands like Mother will be slipping under the radar playing to a fanbase who don’t care about whether they’re cool or fashionable. To put it simply, Mother are a real rock band for real rock fans.
