Geared Up
Gear Review: Royal Bliss Bassist Dwayne Crawford on His Spector Coda Deluxe bass
Since 1997 the alternative/hard rock act Royal Bliss have been releasing albums and touring the country playing their unique brand of music. Now, on February 18th, the group will release their 8th studio record, Chasing the Sun. Now that the album is complete I was able to sit down and chat briefly with bassist Dwayne Crawford about his favorite piece of gear. Here is how the conversation went.

What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Crawford: Definitely my USA made Spector Coda Deluxe bass.

What makes it so important to you?
Crawford: Pretty much everything about it makes it a crucial piece of gear for me. From the amazing tone I get from the Aquilar 1960’s Jazz pickups to the overall feel, this is one incredibly well crafted machine.
What are the major pros and cons of the bass?
Crawford: It practically plays itself! I’ve played a lot of basses, but you can really feel the difference in quality in this instrument. Hands down, it’s the finest constructed bass I’ve ever owned.

How long have you had it, how do you use it, and would you ever change it?
Crawford: I’ve been touring with this bass for a little over two years now and it’s been my primary live and studio bass since the day I got it. I can’t even remember the last time I did a show without it.
Any final thoughts on the gear?
Crawford: If you get a chance to check out one of these fine instruments, I highly recommend it!
