I recently had a moment to sit down with guitarist Dave Tipple of the West Virginia-based hard rock act Bobaflex and speak about his favorite piece of gear. Tipple recently joined the band for their latest release Charlatan’s Web which has spurred one Top 40 single in “Bad Man”. Here is what Tipple had to say about his Martin DC-16 acoustic guitar.
What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Tipple: It would have to be my Martin DC-16 acoustic guitar.
What makes it so important to you?
Tipple: It’s the first expensive guitar I bought with my own money. I literally take this guitar everywhere! We’ve been through a lot together.
What are the major pros and cons?
Tipple: It produces an amazing sound and feels great under your fingers. Can’t wait to touch it now! And, I honestly can’t think of a con.
How long have you had it, how do you use it, and would you ever change it?
Tipple: I’ve had this guitar for about 8 years or more. I use it everyday! I often play acoustic gigs around town when I’m not on the road with Bobaflex. And, sure there are many other companies that make great acoustic guitars. If I had the money I would definitely check out my options! As long is it has that sound and feel I’m looking for then I’m game.
Any final thoughts or comments on the gear?
Tipple: You will not be disappointed in a Martin guitar. It’s definitely one of my favorite things I own!
