PWS – The Packable Wireless System by Grain Audio [Gear Review]
Portable wireless speakers are gaining in popularity and since they pair with just about any mobile Bluetooth device, they are ideal for taking your music on the go. With so many devices on the market though it might be difficult to find the one that is suitable for your own needs. I have owned a few myself and have listened to quite a few others and I can honestly say that the PWS – The Packable Wireless System by Grain Audio is by far my favorite of the bunch.

We all know that first impressions are important and at first glance this is a real beauty! It features a great looking walnut wood grain finished enclosure which allows it to blend in perfectly on a bookshelf or desk. Pairing the unit with my Smartphone was incredibly easy and took only seconds to complete. This is a speaker though and while looks are important the crux of it all is that it must sound good… I am happy to say that the PWS sounds absolutely phenomenal!
I sampled various genres of music while testing this speaker and in all cases the frequency response was both phenomenal and accurate, providing amazing separation between the lows, mids, and highs. While I think the PWS delivers exceptionally rich audio across the spectrum, it really shines in the bottom end with an incredible lush smoothness that I have not heard in any other portable Bluetooth speaker.
If you are like me, then volume is an important factor when choosing a speaker as well (my motto has always been “if it is too loud you are too old”) and this is an area where I have had major issues with other products. More often than not they begin to break up and distort as the volume increases. The PWS is different though because as I cranked it up there was no discernible distortion to speak of and the unit handled the noise without a flaw.
Additional features worth noting are the up to eight hours of battery life on a single charge, a nice looking heavy duty carrying case, and a sturdy A/C adapter. At the end of the day the PWS – The Packable Wireless System is by far the best portable speaker I have heard and I highly recommend snagging one.
