The Skinny: On the heels of the announcement of their upcoming full-length Underneath the Rainbow (out March 18 on Vice Records), flower punk progenitors Black Lips have booked a full US tour stretching from early March into May. In addition to appearances at Burgerama and SXSW, the band will mount a headlining tour joined at various points by The Coathangers and Natural Child.
In addition to the tour announcement, the band have unveiled the cover art for Underneath the Rainbow, featuring a photo by legendary music photographer Mick Rock (David Bowie, Queen). Comprised of songs recorded over the last year during sessions with Charles Bradley’s music director Tommy Brenneck (Cee Lo, Dap Kings), Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, and lifetime Lips recording collaborator, Ed Rawls, Underneath The Rainbow stands testament to the quartet’s growth and maturation over the course of their 15-year career via a honed and perfected take on their hook-laden psychedelic garage-pop.
