Album Review

Pistol Day Parade – “Burn”

Burn is a hard-hitting, energetic record from Detroit rockers Pistol Day Parade. I think it is rare to find a debut album as cohesive and solid as Burn; it is a straight-up engaging hard rock disc with a slightly heavy edge. Moreover, I feel almost any of Burn‘s 13 tracks would be right at home on modern rock radio.

A solid groove is quickly established at the top of the disc in title track “Burn”. The song drives the record forward in top-notch arena rock fashion and from there it just keeps going! At times I could not help but feel as though I had crossed into familiar territory as a number of these songs have such a strong Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 influence to them. This is not a bad thing though and there are quite a few breakout moments as well – “High” and “New Life” being great examples. They are both more aggressive and a bit heavier than the rest of the crowd and overall I think two of the disc’s best tunes.

At the end of the day I think hard rock fans are going to totally dig this record, I know I did.
