Ninkharsag – “The Essential Salts of Human Dust” [EP]

One of the injustices in the world of music is the fact that it’s really hard to get noticed. Yes, I know that the internet has opened up all sorts of promotional opportunities for bands, but the sheer amount of talent that’s just sitting in the underground continues to amaze me.

One of the injustices in the world of music is the fact that it’s really hard to get noticed. Yes, I know that the internet has opened up all sorts of promotional opportunities for bands, but the sheer amount of talent that’s just sitting in the underground continues to amaze me.

Case in point is Ninkharsag. This act has put out a demo and have a full-length album ready to be released but so far have yet to have any label help. Why? Who knows! One thing that’s for sure though is that it’s not at all due to the quality of music. This band plays old-school black metal that sounds quite similar to Immortal, sans corpse paint of course.

The Essential Salts of Human Dust is a 2 song EP released as both a 7″ and digital download on Bandcamp. While both songs are good, the standout thing about the EP is the fact that you can actually hear just how much potential is oozing from this group. The songs are fast and furious, yet there is a ton of hookiness at the same time. If you think of Immortal’s At the Heart of Winter you’ll have the right idea. It will be interesting to see what the band does next as this EP shows a ton of promise!
