Crossfaith – “Apocalyze” [Album Review]
This Summer, while attending the Vans Warped Tour, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Japanese metal act Crossfaith… I was totally blown away by both what I heard and saw. Needless to say I was quite excited when the band’s new disc, Apocalyze, crossed my desk a few weeks later.
The moment I heard opener “We Are The Future” I knew I would not be disappointed. This disc packs a serious, high-energy metalcore punch but with a bit of a twist; a healthy dose of electronic instrumentation and a good amount of dub step mixed in as well. Don’t get the wrong idea though, this is some heavy, punishing, and unrelenting music with enough riffage and raw, in-your-face vocals to satisfy any metal head. These additional electronic elements simply help to really make the music standout from that of others in the genre.
I like to think that I am tuned in to what is happening in the metal world, but this is Crossfaith’s third full-length and I am not sure how this talented group slipped under my radar. After listening to this disc though, I can guarantee I will be checking out their previous efforts and adding Apocalyze to my regular playlist.
