Valaska – “Natural Habitat” [Album Review]
As many of you may know from reading my reviews, I am a huge fan of heavy, aggressive metal and I like to think I can head bang with the best of them. That does not mean; however, that at times I don’t need the occasional break from all the noise. I will be the first to tell you there are times when a mellower, more sedated soundtrack is desperately needed and more than welcome.

Natural Habitat, the latest release from Chicago-based musician Valaska, fits the aforementioned bill perfectly; at least for me. It is stripped down to the bare bones and has a melancholic sort of hypnotic vibe that lends itself perfectly to those much needed moments of relaxation and downtime.
There are no bells and whistles on this indie-influenced singer/songwriter disc and because of this the lyrics take front row center, inviting you to listen to and contemplate their meaning… something which more than likely will be different for every listener.
If you are looking for some quality non-metal music with thought provoking lyrics I highly suggest checking out Natural Habitat; it is truly wonderful.
