Lawnmower – “Team Spirit” [Song Review]

A Michigan-based three piece by the name of Lawnmower bring their brand of lo-fi indie-punk to the table with their upcoming EP on Save Your Generation records. Channeling the likes of Superchunk and Weezer, and sounding like Canadian noise-pop duo Japandriods, Lawnmower put a little extra dash of pop-punk into “Team Spirit” and deliver a sharp, memorable track.

It’s hard to pin down where their sound is going (since 2010’s Franchise Wings LP) with only this and one other song available – “Beware Heather Sinclair” sounding a bit too Weezer and not enough, well, anything else – but if “Team Spirit” drives the EP’s sound, then the upcoming Whack Yer Brain could be a great dose of 90’s inspired tunes. I listened to it four times in 12 minutes and 16 seconds, and no, you can’t beat my time.

Run Time: 3:04
Release Date: April 20, 2013
