“Decline” is the latest from Oakland, California’s Secrets of the Sky, free for you here as a free download. Their sound has been described as cinematic, cerebral, atmospheric post metal with doomy, proggy, blackened influences. Such an elaborate sound does not just develop overnight, as Chris Anderson (guitars, keys) and Clayton Bartholomew (guitars, keys) have been at work on Secrets of the Sky for three years now. They went through a number of auditions to round out the rest of the band, including the obviously very important vocalist position before settling on drummer Lance Lea, bassist John Mananquil, third guitarist Andy Green and vocalist Garett Gazay who came on board in 2011.
With a powerful lineup intact, Secrets of the Sky wrote and rehearsed for a year which became To Sail Black Waters, the band’s first studio full-length. To develop as a live act, they started playing shows in early 2012 in the Bay Area. The band played eight shows along the west coast this past September and have started to garner great interest as a live act. They’ve already been offered high profile shows with bands such as Black Cobra, Saviours with many more to come in the future.
