There exist many songs celebrating weed and other type of stimulants. Black Sabbath’s “Sweet Leaf”, Down’s “Hail The Leaf” and Queen Of The Stone Age’s “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer” are just some of the few poignant examples. However, none take it quite to the level of Dopesmoker by Sleep…

“Dopesmoker” is a 66 (!) minute behemoth of a track encompassing all the elements that connoisseurs of premium quality desert/stoner rock, doom metal and sludge metal love; namely mammoth-like riffs, massive grooves, anguished vocals and all fuzz and distortion to die for. Coming from a progressive rock/metal background I’ve been around the block a couple of times, but even I’m impressed by this sonic masterpiece.

The true value of this reissue of Dopesmoker is the fact this is the only version that is approved by the original members of Sleep. It’s lovingly remastered by Brad Boatright and the new artwork by Arik Roper is a sight to behold. The live version of “Holy Mountain” is a nice bonus. I’d buy this one, enough said!
