The Killers – “Runaways” [Song Review]

A sneak peek from The Killers’ latest! It’s been a while since we heard anything new from these Nevada boys in terms of album releases (at least since Day & Age in 2008). “Runaways”, the first single from upcoming album Battle Born starts with a somewhat trite piano and guitar intro. I mean, let’s be real: how many times have we heard that 3-chord progression?

The song gets better though, the pre-chorus and chorus bringing it home with their usual classic rock sound. It is positively anthem-like (very The Who at times) and bound to get you to head-bop without you realizing it. The bridge has bits of electronica which The Killers are known for being able to fuse well with their classic rock influences.

All in all, a decent song but just a tad lacking in originality and freshness. Then again, as in most cases, this single may not be representative of the entire album so it’s worth checking out when it hits stores this Fall.
