Iblis – “Menthell”

You ever put on one of those albums that you just know you’re not going to like from the get go? You know, you turn it on and about a minute in, you realize that you are going to hate it? Have you ever then sat through the remaining album trying to find some redeeming qualities in said disc and been unable to? Well, Menthell is a lot like that for me.

Iblis play some sort of weird avant-garde blackened rock music that’s quite frankly really hard to describe. The music is just odd-sounding to me and really not something I would want to listen to again. Those of you who like highly odd, avant-garde bands will probably love this, but personally I just do not see the appeal at all. Despite the fact that the musicianship is excellent, the songs just don’t do anything for me.
