Since the 2003 release of his self-titled debut, Klayton (who is Celldweller) has been breaking down musical boundaries and melding numerous genres together to form his own unique sound. Combining heavy doses of electronic music with metal, dance and dubstep, his songs are as enjoyable as they are memorable and it’s easy to find yourself simultaneously banging your head and dancing. On his latest disc, Wish Upon A Black Star, Klayton is at the top of his game and has definitely perfected his craft.

The songs on this record may run the musical gamut, but they all share the same traits; they are punchy, tightly-written, extremely well-produced and are guaranteed to get you out of your seat and moving. I’ve been a fan from Celldweller’s inception and I feel this is his best effort to date. There’s no filler to be found on this disc really; they’re all gems, but if forced to choose, I totally dig “Lucky One” and “So Long Sentiment” because they feel slightly edgier to me. At the end of the day Wish Upon A Black Star is fresh, vibrant and well worth checking out.
