MyChildren MyBride – “MyChildren MyBride”

“Bands often use a self-titled album to stamp something – a new beginning, a new sound, a career-defining batch of songs by which all of their other work can be measured.” This quote comes from MyChildren MyBride’s Facebook page and helps to explain exactly what this new release means for the group. Their third disc, MyChildren MyBride, features a tweaked line-up (now with five members instead four) and begs the question, with an extra member, did it greatly affect the group and their music?

“Bands often use a self-titled album to stamp something – a new beginning, a new sound, a career-defining batch of songs by which all of their other work can be measured.” This quote comes from MyChildren MyBride’s Facebook page and helps to explain exactly what this new release means for the group. Their third disc, MyChildren MyBride, features a tweaked line-up (now with five members instead four) and begs the question, with an extra member, did it greatly affect the group and their music?

MyChildren MyBride begins with a fulfilling breakdown that leads into “On Wings Of Integrity Pt. II” (part one can be heard on Unbreakable). The music is instantly hard hitting and METAL while the breakdowns are just excellent and cleverly disguised with melodic, yet ‘dirty’ guitars. When not throwing down thick riffs, the band is rocking some simple, yet powerful chord progressions. All of the chaos is nicely tied together and clearly led by the tatted up Matthew Hasting’s shouted vocals.

Hands down, MyChildren MyBride is one of the most intense metal/hardcore records I’ve in the past few years and absolutely pummeled my ear drums from start to finish. So the question IS answered… the addition of a new guitarist definitely helped MCMB to write an intense, career-defining record.
