Album Review
Inverloch – “Dusk…Subside” [EP]
Inverloch is a group that has two members of doom band, disEMBOWLMANT, a band I’ve personally never heard, but who apparently have a bit of a rep as a classic band in the underground. As a result Inverloch has a bit of hype and absolutely stellar advance reviews for Dark…Subside. Now, as someone who’s big into more underground bands, I approached this album with high expectations, thinking that this might be THE release that floors me. Did it floor me?

Not quite. In reality I should love this album’s combo of death and doom metal, but I don’t. The production has that awesome muddy undeground sound, the guitars go between fast and furious and the vocalist sounds like he just stepped out of a freshly dug grave. But… the songs just lack that extra oomph and nothing really hits me in the gut like it should. The album is only three songs long, yet runs for 28 minutes; which results in a bit of a slog at times with long varying intervals of silence and noise.
Overall I would say the album is worth a check into if only for the hype factor, but don’t go into this expecting anything classic. At best it’s a bit above average.
