Ektomorf – “Outcast”

Mezőkovácsháza, Hungary group Ektomotf has seen many barriers in their international career. For example, founding member Zoltán “Zoli” Farkas felt his gypsy heritage has given people reason to attack both him and the band with racism and prejudice. Even with these blockades however, Ektomorf continue to persevere and released their fifth full-length Outcast via Nuclear Blast Records back in 2006.

On this release, Ektomorf put together a collection of groove-oriented songs with a hint of Hungarian musical influences added to the mix. I personally won’t be able to tell you what native instruments were used in the recordings as my intelligence of that sort of thing is minimal, but I can say it brings a whole new dimension to the world of metal. Also, I’m not sure if it’s due to the aforementioned racism, but Zoltán angrily shouts through each song. While only an average release, Ektomorf don’t deserve any flack or prejudice. They offer the world decent, culture-rich music that pays homage to their own unique heritage.
