Over the Atlantic Ocean, in Serbia, lives the melodic death metal band Sangre Eterna. With their second studio album, Asphyxia, these Serbs have released their biggest offering to date; and with the help of Maple Metal Records, the 11 tracker found its way onto Canadian soil.

This melodic death metal group’s music contains aggressive instrumentals, guitar melodies and harmonizations. Sometimes these overlays are taken on by the keyboards which allow for the guitars to instead keep the songs’ rhythm-heavy. Vocally the band sticks with Ilija Stevanovic’s dirty-sounding growls, while they have also invited several guest musicians like Aleksi Sihvonen (Norther), Tapio Wilska (ex-Finntroll, ex-Nightwish), Juha Kylmänen (For My Pain), Jarmo Kylmänen (Eternal Tears Of Sorrow) and Jovana Karajanov (Tales of Dark) to lend their talents to specific songs.

Asphyxia is an amazing release that should leave you somewhat breathless and I highly recommend metal fans grab a copy, especially if you dig the Gothenburg style. Fun fact: the English translation of Sangre Eterna is Eternal Blood.
