Album Review

Derelict – “Perpetuation”

Back in 2009, when I first started writing for this site, I got the chance to review one of my favorite metal CDs. This magnificent album was none other than Unspoken Words by Quebec’s very own technical death metal darlings, Derelict. It is now 2012 and the group have recorded a follow up, entitled Perpetuation, which I again got the privilege of reviewing. With my uber-high standards has Derelict been able to keep me as satisfied as its predecessor?

Back in 2009, when I first started writing for this site, I got the chance to review one of my favorite metal CDs. This magnificent album was none other than Unspoken Words by Quebec’s very own technical death metal darlings, Derelict. It is now 2012 and the group have recorded a follow up, entitled Perpetuation, which I again got the privilege of reviewing. With my uber-high standards has Derelict been able to keep me as satisfied as its predecessor?

As soon as the first song begins, instantly Derelict kick into high gear, thrashing out deadly death metal. The music is technical and fast, and the album rips through 12 intense songs that each absolutely kill. The string work from both the bass and guitars are utterly complex and astounding, while the drums blast behind them like a machine. Vocally Eric Burnet pierces through the music rounding out the band’s behemoth sound. With this powerful mix the band has created some of the most intense music the world has ever seen.

I do not know how they did it but, Derelict has kicked themselves up to the next level with Perpetuation. This album has everything a metal record needs and needs to be owned by every metal head in the world. Go buy it and see them live!
