Joel Gilbert – “Elvis Found Alive” [DVD Review]

Elvis has left the building… or perhaps he hasn’t? As long as I can remember there have been conspiracy theories suggesting Elvis Presley faked his death back in the late ’70s in order to escape from the hassles of being a mega celebrity. This DVD purports to have found Mr. Presley living in Simi Valley, California under the assumed name of “Jon Burrrows.” Apparently director Joel Gilbert made a request for the government files on Presley citing the “Freedom of Information Act” and he was able to track him down. This DVD documents the incredible, yet slightly improbable tale of the greatest entertainer to have ever lived.

Elvis allows the interviewer into his humble abode to discuss his disappearance and let the public know what he has been up to for the last 40 years. It is quite incredible the things Presley has been involved with right under the public’s noses. Spurred on by the social and civil unrest in the ’60s Elvis made a request of then President Nixon to become a Federal Agent so he could make a difference. The details of his days undercover and in hiding are as incredible as they are preposterous, but they make for good entertainment.

No matter what side of the fence you’re on, (is he alive or dead) this DVD is actually quite entertaining and more than amusing. I found myself chuckling on more than one occasion and at the end of the day, if you’re looking for a way to kill a few hours and snag a few laughs in the process, check this out.
