Interview with DJ Mikas and DJ Sage [Exclusive]

Recently we had the opportunity to speak with DJ Mikas and DJ Sage. Read up on a lot of interesting things you may not have known about them.

Hi DJ Mikas and DJ Sage! As this is your first interview with MaxMuzik, let’s start off with a little background. How did each of you get into music?
DJ Mikas: When I was young I had the chance to play many instruments. I was also a part of a band in my teens. Played the drums back then! I was into classic rock and some bands like Guns & Roses, Kiss & Led Zeppelin then, I also played guitar and sax after this. Then I got into dance music and I never looked back!
Dj Sage: My dad was actually a DJ as I was growing up and music was always playing around me. I got in to the underground music scene early and was fortunate to have some real top DJs around me, watching them at their gigs and the way the people took to the music really inspired me and I decided that that was something I wanted to follow.

For our readers who’ve never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words.
Pumping Big Room Progressive Techy!!!!!

Can you offer insight into some of your musical inspirations?
We get our inspiration from working on a daily basis on dance music, for the past 10 years we have been living and breathing dance music on a daily basis! This is what we do when we wake up in the morning every day!

Earlier in February this year, you released your long awaited debut “Eternal” on Black Hole Recordings. What was that experience like for you?
We were pretty exited about getting a release on a label like Black Hole Recordings. It’s a big step forward for us; the whole goal is to reach as many people as we can with our music and with this label we are really going forward with that!

How was the collaboration experience? Do you guys have any plans to collaborate again in the near future?
Neither of us really had much luck collaborating with people before meeting each other but once we started working together something clicked and now we work together at least once or twice a week.

If you could open up for an artist right now, who would it be and why?
We would really like to open for Sander Van Doorn, his sound really works for us, and we are both into the music he is making right now!

Speaking of shows, what are you touring plans for the rest of the year?
We are currently planning a Canadian tour for the spring and have plans for a South American tour by the end of the year.

What artists would fans be surprised to find on your iPod?
We both like classic rock groups like Pink Floyd, U2, and of course we both have our preferences, DJ Mikas is a lot more into prog trance, DJ Sage is a lot more into prog house and techy material.
