Gear Review: The Dunn Boys vocalist and mandolin player Jason Dunn on his FM-52E Mandolin

Jason Dunn of the Canadian Celtic/folk rock band, The Dunn Boys answered the following questions about his favorite piece of gear. The band’s newest release, Volume 1, is a fun record with a good mix of upbeat songs and ballads that has a traditional feel throughout the disc. Here’s what Dunn has to say about his favorite piece of gear.

What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Jason: My Fender FM-52E Mandolin.

What about it makes it so important to you?
Jason: It’s my baby! She treats me well and vice versa.

What are the major pros and cons?
Jason: Pros: The neck feels good. It stays in tune unbelievably. Cons: It’s a single-coil pickup and there’s an occasional rattle on the 5th fret.

How long have you had it, how do you use it, would you ever change it?
Jason: I’ve owned my mando for about 5 years. Would I change it? I’ll try anything twice.
