Dream Theater – “Live at Budokan” [Blu-ray Review]
Filmed in April 2004 at the world famous Budokan, this video captures Dream Theater at what I feel is the top of their game. They seem to be firing on all cylinders as they roll through most of their 2003 release, Train Of Thought, an album that carries on that long standing tradition of masterful musicality that we have come to expect from the band.

This is a group I have never gotten a chance to see live so I guess this Blu-ray is the next best thing; and I found it to be absolutely stunning. It’s one thing to listen to their music, but to actually see the complete wizardry and mastery they all have over their respective instruments is jaw-dropping to say the least.
The video quality is superb and is recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and tops out at over four hours long. When I watched it on my big screen and cranked the audio way up it wasn’t very difficult to imagine I was right there in the thick of it all.
Top the whole thing off with a bunch of behind-the-scenes bonus material and what you get is a must-have disc for fans of the band or fans of music for that matter. You don’t even have to like metal to be able to sit back and appreciate the incredible talent assembled on this one stage. Honestly I was left speechless… it’s that good.
