Carnifex – “Until I Feel Nothing”

The latest release from the Victory Records Deathcore outfit Carnifex is a serious all out ravenous assault on the senses. Breakdowns, grinding double bass and ultra-technical guitar work provide the perfect backdrop for Scott Lewis’s insane vocal delivery. Brash, guttural and extremely powerful, it’s utterly amazing that he has any vocal chords left at all.

This is the bands fourth full-length and I think it really is the best of the bunch. Yes it’s sheer brutality and musical destruction, but it also has hints of melody sprinkled around here and there. A good example can be found in the song “Creation Defaced.” Layered inside the massive pounding is a very cool melodic break that I think goes a long way to breaking things up and providing a brief, but necessary aural respite. Until I Feel Nothing is brutal in every sense of the word and fans of extreme music will eat this one up.
