The Skinny: Danish group Deus Otiosus are not your average old school death metal band. As the band’s debut full-length album, Murderer, discloses, the group does everything, but simply emulate the style of old heroes. Instead Deus Otiosus seem to be oblivious to the genre’s development over the course of the past 15 years and carry the music towards seemingly brand new horizons, as if they were taken right out of the early 90’s.

With the release of Murderer, a passionate flair for song-writing and musical well-roundedness is brought back to death metal. Each track is memorable and distinct while still keeping the red thread of Deus Otiosus. Stone-age primitivism with subtle nuances, sternly brooding but violently aggressive, straight forward yet atmospheric, brutal but varied.
