All Else Fails – “Against The Darkening Sky”

Canadian metal bands emerge seemingly from out of nowhere; each one striving to make a name for themselves. Try as they might, very few succeed and are eventually swallowed up becoming just “another band”. All Else Fails however, are one of the few strong enough to have fought their way to the creation of their first full-length, Against The Darkening Sky.

The band can easily be labelled as metalcore, with thrashing guitar riffs that are heavy and dissonant. Overlaying these are some low and aggressive shouts which then switch over to melodic vocals that I feel, lack the power to uphold the songs’ strong tempos. But, with this single negative aside, All Else Fails have written a metal album, Against The Darkening Sky, that should be owned by all Canadian metal fans. I hope they come to Ontario so I can witness these songs live and have my socks rocked off.
