ZZ Top – “Live In Germany 1980”
This disc was recorded back in 1980 at the Grugahalle in Essen for a German TV series called Rockpalast and captures the legendary, larger-than-life trio at the height of their career. The band kick off the night with the bluesy, “El Deguello” and things quickly get rolling from there with a set list that includes such early hits as “Cheap Sunglasses,” “Tush” and a very cool rendition of “Jail House Rock.” This is rock and roll the way it is meant to be played, gritty and unpretentious with a significant heavy blues/southern rock…

Fans of ZZ Top will absolutely want to pick this disc up; your collection would not be complete without it. Even if you’re not super familiar with the band though, Live In Germany 1980 provides a good selection of some of the older, less commercial tunes that really helped define the band. Bottom line, I feel this disc is extremely entertaining and worth checking out.
