Fred James & Mary-Ann Brandon – “We Belong Together” [Song Review]
Producer Fred James and blues singer Mary-Ann Brandon have teamed up to release a collaborative album entitled We Belong Together; which is due out in July 2011. The title track is an apt indicator for the rest of the album; it’s pleasantly smooth-sounding, but on the whole, really quite dull.

James and Brandon are clearly decent singers, as their dulcet voices compliment each other and harmonise well, but overall it’s a very safe performance, and far from exciting. The twangly guitars and slow drawl of the bluesy drum part are the foundation for a nice enough track, but nothing really jumps out. It’s just a bit drab.
While the song might benefit from more interesting instrumentation, or more inventive (or at the very least, less repetitive) lyrics, connoisseurs of the blues/country genres might find something enjoyable in “We Belong Together”, but it’s unlikely to convert anyone who isn’t already a fan.
