Oh Shaun Morgan, what have we done without your fury and resentment the last year and a half? Seether is back with their sixth studio record Holding on to Strings Better Left to Fray set for release on May 17th, 2011. The album is the follow up to 2009’s Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces, the band’s biggest commercial release to date. The group recorded the new record mostly in Nashville, Tennessee with super producer Brendan O’Brien and apparently, the album will feature some down south influences, a product of where it was recorded.

The first single from the record is appropriately titled “Country Song.” The first time I heard the song I immediately thought “what the fuck is this?” It sounds like what you’d expect from a song called “Country Song,” with a twangy sounding guitar riff and a very southern sound to it. I’m not sure the average Seether fan would immediately love the song since it is a bit of a departure for the band. However, I must say, “Country Song” is a bit of a “grower.” It’s taken several listens but the song isn’t half bad and it’s saved by a strong chorus. Definitely not Seether’s best work but an interesting departure to say the least.

Run Time: 3:48
Release Date: 03.08.2011
