Album Review
Hypno5e – “Des Deux L’Une Est L’Autre”
French is a language I always had trouble with in school. Despite my fault, I’ve never been discouraged from listening to French bands. One that recently caught my attention is Hypno5e, with their new album Des Deux L’Une Est L’Autre. When I got this album title translated it came out to “Two Of The Other One Is”. Is this correct? While I’m not sure, I don’t really care because this album translates into great!

Hypno5e have created a unique sound, altogether differentiating themselves from other metal bands. Des Deux L’Une Est L’Autre is full of crunching bass-sounding guitars laced with harmonics scattered about. And to top off this madness, they overlap shouting, making you actually feel the music’s aggression. Alas, the madness is short lived as they run out of fuel and calm down, switching off the distortion and playing some clean guitars instead. These parts get an ambient feel to them overlayed with mellow voices which calm you down and make you relax… till Hypo5e gets back into the crazy crunches. The pattern repeats itself, waking you up and putting you back to sleep all the while.
Des Deux L’Une Est L’Autre is a one of a kind album which has carved its own niche in the world of metal. Progressive fans of The Ocean, Gojira, Opeth and Titan will appreciate this album for what it is – and love it!
