The Faint: “The Geeks Were Right”

The Skinny: For some strange reason I seem to have found a couple of bands who I am absolutely in love with from the three varying CSI television series. I don’t usually watch them, but when they’re on, the soundtrack sometimes catches me. During a recent airing of CSI:NY, I discovered the sounds of The Faint, specifically the track “The Geeks Were Right”. I checked out this indie rock band, formed in 1995 in Omaha, Nebraska, and they have quickly shot to the top of my favourite bands list.

I find The Faint sound like a combination of Franz Ferdinand and Death From Above 1979 with some The Killers thrown in to the mix for most of their songs. They’re catchy like you wouldn’t believe; talented musicians and their lyrics have some intriguing themes, mostly about sex from what I gather. Wet From Birth is definitely my favourite album of the two I own. It has some violin thrown into a few of the songs and has some mellow tunes, some dance tunes and some punk-influenced tracks, definitely pick that one up.

Their newest release, Fascination, seems to focus more on electronic elements and is more dance-oriented with some hip hop beats and heavy synth parts thrown in. This album is perfect for car owners, it is extremely fun to cruise around to and boasts a lot of bass. This album is also really good for annoying your neighbours, especially if you live in an apartment above a store like I do. People are easily confused about the noise and where it’s coming from while exchanging their gold for cash. Check out The Faint!  [ END ]
