Manowar
Gods Of War (02.26.2007)
Since 1984, the heavy metal band Manowar have been dishing out some of the loudest, heaviest music in the genre. By combining choirs, keyboards and orchestras with unbelievably heavy tunes centered on themes of Norse Mythology, the band has been entertaining fans for over two decades. Gods Of War, the latest release from Manowar, is no exception. This disc is an all around epic of monster proportions.
Most of the songs are prefaced by a narrator who sets up the background and the story line for the tune to follow. In this case, all of the tunes revolve around Odin, King Of The Gods and the primary God of war. Following the narration is some of the best straight up heavy metal you will ever hear. Each song is better than the next and it is impossible for me to single out one tune.
Really, because of the storyline Gods Of War works best as a complete disc. There are no bad tunes on here, each one is well crafted and extremely well produced making this a CD that is a must have for any fan of metal. The CD packaging follows the Norse themes as well and is completely written in the ancient Runic alphabet making it that much more authentic.
Manowar is a band that has sold over 9 million records worldwide and they have been inducted into the Guinness Book Of World Records, 3 different times for delivering the loudest performance. In February, the band set yet another record by performing the longest heavy metal concert by playing a show in Bulgaria that lasted for 5 hours and 1 minute.
At the end of the day, this is probably one of my all-time favorite CDs and has become a mainstay in my CD payer ( too bad it took me so long to come across it). I would highly recommend this disc to everyone, after all over 9 million people can’t be wrong. [ END ]
