Album Review
The Casualties
Under Attack (08.22.2006)
As I sip my 3rd beer I glance over a white cover picturing a young punk sporting a mohawk, septum piercing, leather wristband and a studded denim vest. His hands are grasping what appears to be basic chicken wire and on his knuckles the word “Rejected” is tattooed. I really don’t know what this is supposed to represent, if anything. Is this kid in a warzone-like high school getting beaten up by guys with shirts that could easily be considered dresses? I can only assume it has to do with the title of the album, Under Attack. However, the first track on the album, which bears the same name, is about George W. Bush and only mentions the youth once and simply stated, that they are being mislead. In any case, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and the same goes for this CD.
This album is filled with all your classic Hardcore Punk characteristics. It’s angry, it’s hard, it’s fast and all the yelling and hatred towards something more powerful then you makes it just like sex with a drugged up gorilla. I’m not speaking from experience mind you. This album is a great listen though. It doesn’t sound much like their old stuff but I’m sure you’ll stay a fan and if you’re not already (and are into bands like Warzone, Slapshot or other bands similar to those), you’ll want to give this album a listen.
For me, Under Attack doesn’t have quite the crunch that I would prefer. Don’t get me wrong, I still blast the tracks through my headphones, but I do like a heavier sound. Overall, I think it might just be the fact that it has been 5 or 6 years since my first punk show and nothing has changed other then the number of poseurs and number of shows. I may have grown tired of the music or it might just be the alcohol, I’ll leave that one up to you to decipher on your own. In conclusion, this album is definitely worth at least one spin in your CD player, so check it out. [ END ]
