Album Review
Liferuiner
Taking Back The Nightlife (06.01.2008)
Okay so I’m going to start this review off a tad bit differently than I normally do. I don’t know what the deal is with the “current” line-up of Liferuiner. Some claim the new line-up doesn’t consist of a single original member, while others insist the line-up is a hoax. I’m hoping for option B, to be honest. Also, the band starting in Toronto and “transferring” their Canadian roots and claiming to be American now is ridiculous. Again, I do not know if this is true. As far as I’m concerned, they’re all rumors. But anyway, enough bullshit. Onto what matters; Taking Back The Nightlife.
A typical theme amongst hardcore bands is the seemingly endless song titles. They can be highly amusing from time to time; having nothing at all to do with the lyrics what-so-ever. Titles such as “A Ticket To The Pussy Crusher… the song had absolutely nothing to do with… *cough*.
ANYWAY! One of the best tracks on the album in my opinion is “You Look Better When You’re Drunk”. Just about every band has a line in a few tracks that stands out, making that particular line somewhat of a catch phrase. With this track, the line that stands out is “Fuck you. Fuck this. Fuck your mother fucking life”. Anybody that listens to Liferuiner can vouch for me when I say, that line is very famous due to these particular straight-edge guys.
Another theme used by a wide amount of hardcore bands is a quote at the beginning of the track. Most of the time, the quote is taken from a movie. While the band does use a lot of dialect involving God or religion, the band members themselves aren’t necessarily religious.
I believe it is safe for me to say this album kicks major ass. Although it was a tad bit linear, it is still now very rare to find an album that isn’t linear in some way, shape, or form. [ END ]
