Album Review
Bullet For My Valentine
Scream, Aim, Fire (2008)

Alright, so here’s the deal. Bullet For My Valentine (BFMV) has become quite mainstream over the past two years, but does anybody know the two original names of the band before they decided on Bullet For My Valentine? I doubt it. The band formed back in 1998 under the name 12 Pints Of My Girlfriend’s Blood, doing mostly covers. Obviously this name was too graphic to force the band into the mainstream, so they changed it to Jeff Killed John, which was later changed again to the name we all know and love.
The band’s first EP released in North America is the EP most of us recognize, although the band released an earlier EP in Wales the year previous. With the release of The Poison, the band aimed more towards the mainstream side of music. And with the latest album, Scream Aim Fire, they really broke the mainstream. In both air play, and song quality.
The album still has the typical BFMV feel to it, however the songs can be more audience based, repeating the chorus more times than is necessary, with easier to follow lyrics. The band also dropped a lot of the edge portrayed on the EP Hand of Blood.
The disc does have its moments of decency. “Waking the Demon” showcases the original Bullet For My Valentine screams and heaviness that we all love. But in all honestly, the majority of the album sounds like a bad clash of Avenged Sevenfold and modern Metallica. Don’t get me wrong, those two bands are good and all, but in my opinion, they are not meant to be mixed together. [ END ]
